Rock Solid Update

Rock Solid has been amazing over the last few weeks! 2 weeks ago we had 13 I think including one girl who Claire (St Peters volunteer) made flapjacks with. The boys from week 1 came back and we had a few more. We managed to get the discussion slot in and they all had something to say (although not all of it was pleasant!) and one of the boys even believes in and was defending the existence of God to his friends!

There was a small incident involving a fire extinguisher but I laid down the law and told them that any future offences will result in a a ban so hopefully they took me seriously(!).

This guy, J who I met outside Archway about a year ago and have built a good relationship with since came along too which was just amazing. (He's been excluded from boarding school. Geraldine from Archway knew his mum when he was a baby. She confirmed that as his mum was going through a personal crises when he was botn, he was brought up by his aunt. Eventually his mum died when he was quite young but even then he didn't know she was his mum.

Could you pray for Rock Solid, for the young people and the challenge of going deeper
Pray for J and his situation, pray that God will help him overcome the difficult life situations he has been faced with

Changing Gardens at St Peters

Peter Holmes (Vicar of St Peter’s) would like to invite anyone interested in doing something with the “Garden People” here at St Peter’s to a meeting next week.

As is clear to anyone who passes the church there are now a considerable number of drinkers and (former) methadone users frequenting the grounds. As the weather gets colder in the Autumn, Peter would love to see the church tackling some of the issues they face, including providing a space for nurturing faith.

He is inviting together all those who are willing to engage with them to a meeting at St Peter’s, Norbiton at 12.30pm on Thursday 31st July 2008.

Rock Solid Weekend Away

St Peters' Rock Solid Club headed away this weekend to Blacklands farm in Sussex for a weekend of climbing, camping and bungee trampolining!

It was a great weekend comprising sunshine, camp fires, toasted marshmallows and deep and meaningful conversations.

The photos give a glimpse of what we got up to, but fail to convey the great sense of fun we all had, which for some of the young people was the first time they had not only camped, but had spent more than a brief period in the countryside.

It was great to see the young people attempt various activities that they hadn't tried out before. Seeing them attempt and succeed in climbing and exploring we were able to chat to them about stepping out in faith in other areas in life.

Two years ago when we went away with the Rock Solid group we returned with an ungrateful group of teenagers, this time however we saw how much this group had moved on as we came back laughing, chatting and wishing the trip was longer.

The next challenge is to recruit a new (paid) worker for St Peters, they will then be charged with developing the work and the going deeper plans of work (see details below).
