Sophia Network – brand new – for women in youth work

The Sophia Network was launched and received with great enthusiasm at the Youthwork conferences in Southport and Eastbourne in November. It aims to connect and celebrate women in youth work and ministry, creating opportunities to share wisdom and work together.

Women from across the UK have signed up to be part of this dynamic group, and as it grows it will facilitate regional meetings, training, mentoring, retreats and other projects.” It was great to meet so many female youth workers who see a need for a network like this,’ says Jenny Baker, a co-founder of the network. ‘Some are quite isolated where they are; some are looking for mentors; some are doing fantastic youth work and are keen to share their experiences with others.’

The network has started with an online presence, at www.sophianetwork.org.uk. Women who join the network are entered into an online directory of youth workers and have access to articles, reviews, interviews and a community blog where they can ask for advice, share experiences and discuss issues.

The cost of joining the Sophia Network is £20, but until the end of December there is a ‘buy one, get one free’ offer. Women who join Sophia can nominate another female youth worker for a year’s free membership to help spread the word about Sophia.
